Universal Hollywood New Coaster is back in focus after Laughing Place reported that A new report claims Fast &. Furious: Hollywood Drift at Universal Studios Hollywood will miss its opening.
The coaster, billed as the park’s most thrilling ride yet, completed a soft opening last month, allowing a limited number of guests to experience the high‑speed outdoor track. According to USA Today, visitors praised the ride’s acceleration and thematic integration, noting that it “sets a new benchmark for thrill‑seeker experiences at Universal.”
The official opening date was also detailed in a Los Angeles Times newsletter that listed the coaster among other upcoming park attractions. The newsletter confirmed the June 15 launch and highlighted the park’s marketing push aimed at families and international tourists during the summer peak season (Los Angeles Times).
Why the Universal Hollywood New Coaster Impacts Revenue
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is the first high‑speed outdoor roller coaster at Universal Studios Hollywood. A market where indoor attractions have traditionally dominated. Industry analysts project that the coaster will add roughly $120 million in incremental revenue during its first fiscal year. Driven by higher ticket prices, increased merchandise sales, and longer guest stays.
The park’s finance chief told investors that the coaster’s launch aligns with a broader strategy to boost per‑guest spend ahead of the 2028 Summer Olympics in nearby Los Angeles. The timing also positions Universal to compete more aggressively with Southern California rivals such as Disneyland Resort. This Has recently introduced its own high‑thrill offerings.
In addition to direct ticket revenue, the coaster’s thematic tie‑in with the Fast & Furious franchise opens licensing opportunities for branded merchandise, food‑and‑beverage items, and cross‑promotional media campaigns. The franchise’s global fan base is expected to drive international visitation, a key growth segment for the park (Universal Studios Hollywood).
Why this matters now
Local residents have voiced concerns about the coaster’s noise footprint, especially during evening test runs. In response, Universal Studios announced the installation of sound‑absorbing barriers along the track’s most exposed sections. A council member from the neighboring district confirmed the plan, stating, “We are installing sound barriers to protect nearby residents while still allowing the park to deliver world‑class entertainment” (Los Angeles Times).
“The new barriers will reduce decibel levels by up to 15 dB. Bringing the ride’s sound profile in line with city ordinances,” the council member added.
The park’s engineering team conducted acoustic modeling during the soft‑opening phase. Confirming that the barriers would meet the city’s “quiet‑zone” requirements. The measures have been praised by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. Who noted that the proactive approach could serve as a model for future high‑noise attractions.
Beyond noise mitigation, Universal has pledged ongoing monitoring of ride performance and community impact. A quarterly report will be submitted to the county, detailing visitor numbers, noise levels, and any additional mitigation steps required.
